Surfing Victoria's best ever 1 to 10 surfers to be announced at special evening.

Surfing Victoria has decided their 10 top surfers in the 50 year modern era of surfing, but the actual listing is in holding and will be announced on December 2nd!

Following an extensive survey along with a follow up selection process the top ten have been finalized.

It's all part of a special celebration marking the 50th anniversary of Californian and Hawaiian surfers coming to Torquay Surf Life Saving Club for a special International Life Saving carnival which had an amazing impact and sparked the modern era of surfing!

The top 10, who have also been ordered one to ten, will be announced at the Fifty Year Celebration of Modern Surfing function at Surfworld Museum in Torquay on December 2nd marking the occassion almost to the day when Balsawood surfboards were ridden by Californian's and Hawaiian's at Torquay point, revealing to all who saw them, performance boardriding on waves that would set the scene for an incredible progression in the sport.

The wide challenge for all with an interest in Victorian surfing, will be to try and select the final top ten and the order!

The process has highlighted just how strong Victoria's surfing history has been with multiple Australian Champions, high placed surfers in world rated events, winners at the highest level on the world stage along with some incredible big wave surfers who are still renown world wide.

Over 50 years, there's been numerous great surfers who could fit into this top ten listing, but like any list selecting the best, it will be agreed and disagreed with!

From 1956 when the likes of Peter Troy were breaking new ground, through the the golden 70's era when surfers like Wayne Lynch, Kym Thompson, Wally Tibballs and numerous others were matching it with many of the worlds best to the modern era when yet another Brooks competes on the world stage along with a host of younger surfers like Nic Muscroft and Adam Robertson, ten have been selected and ordered.

Write down your own lists, start up work sweeps, choose a few surfers who you think might be shock ommissions or shock inclusions, pick your top three and even organize tables of eight or individual tickets to what should be an intriuging and entertaining evening. Tickets are available through Surfing Victoria, phone 52612907 or via Surfworld.

On the same day, during the afternoon at Torquay Point there will be an amazing boardriding display of surfboards throughout this incredible 50 year era between 1 and 3pm.

Peter Troy will be a special guest speaker at the evening and will be in Torquay on Friday December 1st. Troy was there at Torquay 50 years ago!
