Regional morning report for Newcastle: 7.00am Thursday, 28th January: SSE windswell has picked up to a windblown head-high to a foot or two overhead across the region, with strong SSE winds at 20-25 knots leaving little to the imagination, producing choppy, ragged conditions wherever you look. Targeting a sheltered southern corner out of the wind will be your best bet for a few smaller, better quality waves.
Rest of the Day Outlook: Energetic, windblown SSE windswell gradually transitions SE in direction this arvo - and onshore winds will follow suite, making for a full day of junky, low-quality onshore conditions. The upside is sparsely crowded lineups and, well, plenty of fresh air. High tide is at 8.59am and it will run out to a 3.37pm low. Have a great day.

For some the modern short board will never make sense. To me there are elements of the past that are still viable today, when blended with all we have learnt in the past.
