Ballina Regional Surf Report: 6.32am Sunday 17th January:  A SSW breeze first thing this morning with a slightly smaller swell this morning turning a little more ESE in direction knee to waist high on the Points and waist-high on the open beachbreaks. Catching more SE swell on the wide-open magnets and offering plenty of surfing options first thing. Make the most of it!. Coming off a low tide at 4 am and the next High tide at 11 am. Will improve with the incoming tide before the SE wind arrives.

Rest of the Day Outlook:  Good waves on offer throughout the day favouring southern corners protected from se winds and the ESE swell maintaining in the knee to waist high range.

Surf Forecast 1 -3/ 1-3 SSE swell direction with 9 sec intervals. Small increase in south swell looking likely, arriving beneath early light and variable winds, favouring south-swell magnets for size. Light inshore winds tend SE/ESE, then ENE and freshening later.

Coastal Waters forecast.  Winds Southeasterly 10 to 15 knots becoming east to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the late afternoon.

Swell Southerly 1 to 1.5 metres inshore, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres offshore south of Yamba.

    WeatherMostly sunny.

    Tides – L 5.24am ( .38) H 12.12 pm ( 1.58) L 6.49pm (.36)

A high-pressure system near the Bight extends a ridge through New South Wales, and is working with a strong low near New Zealand to produce strong winds over southern New South Wales waters. Another, weaker high lies off the northeast coast of New South Wales. A cold front will bring a gusty south to southwesterly change extending north everywhere along the coast Tuesday.

For some the modern short board will never make sense. To me there are elements of the past that are still viable today, when blended with all we have learnt in the past.
